A Two or Three Day Jaisalmer Itinerary

Two days is enough to see Jaisalmer's highlights and spend a night in the desert. A third day adds breathing room or a second desert area. Here is a plan that works for most first visits.

Day 1: the Golden City

Start early at Gadisar Lake while it is quiet, then walk up into Jaisalmer Fort. Take your time in the lanes, the Jain temples and the viewpoints over the city. In the afternoon, visit Patwon ki Haveli and the markets below the fort. End the day at Bada Bagh for sunset.

Day 2: towards the dunes

After a slow morning, drive west towards Sam. Stop at Kuldhara, the abandoned village, on the way. Check in to your camp by late afternoon, set out on a camel or jeep safari for sunset, and stay for the evening programme and dinner.

Day 3: optional

Watch sunrise on the dunes and return to the city, or continue to Khuri for a quieter desert experience before heading back. Travellers with more time can add Lodurva or the Desert National Park.

Things to do in Jaisalmer in the evening

Rooftop cafes around the fort have good sunset views. The lanes near the fort gate are lively after dark.
