What to Pack for Jaisalmer and a Night in the Desert
Clothing for hot days and cool nights, sun protection, footwear for sand and the small things people forget.
Desert weather swings between strong daytime sun and much cooler nights. Packing in layers covers both.
Clothing
Light, loose cotton or linen for the day, with long sleeves to protect from sun. A warm fleece or jacket for evenings from November to February, and a hat or cap. Modest clothing is appreciated in temples inside the fort.
Sun and sand
Sunscreen, sunglasses and lip balm. A scarf or light cloth helps when the wind lifts sand. Keep phones and cameras in a zipped bag on the dunes.
Footwear
Sandals or slip-on shoes are easiest on the dunes because sand fills closed shoes quickly. Bring comfortable walking shoes for the stone lanes of the fort.
Small things
A torch or phone light for camp paths at night, a refillable water bottle, basic medicines, wet wipes and some cash for small purchases and tips.
Packing for the camp night
